Best Cloud Hosting in India (Updated October) – Reviews & Buyer’s Guide

If you have been blogging or researching on the subject even for a few weeks, then you must know the importance of having a reliable hosting provider. An efficient hosting provider will keep your website running smoothly, and poor hardware can result in the website failure.

Many bloggers are slowly turning towards cloud hosting. So what is all this hype about cloud hosting? What is it exactly, and is this better than a dedicated and VPS hosting server?

Here is everything you need to know about cloud hosting and the best cloud hosting providers in India.

What is Cloud Hosting?

No matter how small or successful a business is, cloud hosting is something that is suitable for every business website. Taking inspiration from the cloud, cloud hosting works on the same principle.

In layman’s language, your hosting server is a virtual space that stores all your website data and lets you access it through several devices. The resources required for maintaining your website are spread across a cluster of servers that work together forming a virtual ‘cloud’.

The biggest advantage with cloud hosting that your website has a multiple servers. So, even if one of the servers fails, your website will always have a replacement. Moreover, cloud hosting is as private and secure as a dedicated server.

Different cloud hosting plans come with different features and upgrades that will differ in prices. So, the user has an open choice to select a plan that will suit his or her needs.

Cloud Hosting: How Does it Work?

In a cloud hosting environment, resources are distributed over a cluster of servers instead of a single server. This helps the server to handle sudden traffic spikes and the group of servers prevents downtimes by distributing the load evenly and providing a backup in case of failure.

Performance of cloud servers mainly depends on the quality of hardware used; enterprise cloud services use high-performance hardware. They utilize VMware architecture and deliver extremely reliable cloud services which are even better than dedicated servers.

But in case of cheap cloud services the quality of the hardware can affect the performance, saying this cheap does not always mean low quality, the brand, support, service quality everything goes into deciding if the hosting provider is reliable.

Cloud Hosting vs Dedicated Servers & VPS

With a dedicated server, you get a dedicated RAM, CPU and Storage that is solely for your use and is not shared by any other website. Whereas, a VPS server is a mix of both shared and dedicated hosting.

In VPS hosting, the client has complete control over their server but the resources are virtually shared with the help of a Virtual Client Software.

Lastly, cloud hosting uses a virtual space like the internet to store data that can be accessed through several platforms, with the added advantage of several servers at several locations which gives your website exceptional speed and great uptime.

Although dedicated and VPS hosting is secure and gives you good uptime, they don’t guarantee server security. Where on the other hand, cloud hosting is extremely reliable as there are several other servers to replace the crashed one.

Cloud hosting may seem costly to some, but with the advantages you get, it is really value for money.

Who is Cloud Hosting For?

Cloud hosting provides storage and uptime solutions but at a higher price than its alternatives. So, if you have a website with huge traffic then you should definitely consider cloud hosting as an option.

Moreover, cloud hosting plans provide unlimited storage, so for websites with graphics can go for cloud hosting.

But if you are a new blogger who is still setting up a website, you should go for a dedicated or VPS server, as cloud hosting can be a little expensive.

Choosing the type of hosting is already a difficult task and when you add the various hosting service providers, it just becomes a mess. So, to make the task a little easier and to help you decide the best cloud hosting provider in India, I have compiled a list of all the factors to look for while choosing a cloud host.

Factors to Look for When Choosing the Cloud Hosting Providers in India

1) Uptime Guarantee

Reliability of the web host is a very important factor while considering to host your website.

Uptime is the average your website runs smoothly without a glitch or getting crashed. To ensure this, you need to make sure that the cloud website host that you choose for your website has an average uptime of at least 99.7%.

Even with websites with an uptime of 99.99%, your website will face a downtime of almost a minute every day. Here is an example-

Time PeriodDowntime
Day1 min 26 sec
Week10 min 5 sec
Month43 min 12 sec
Year8 hrs 45 min 36 sec

Most of the web hosts claim an uptime of 99.99%, but promising is one thing and providing is another.

So, before you go on and commit to a web host, make sure that you have tested it for uptime and get an average of at least 99.97%.

Now, having an uptime less than 99.9% doesn’t mean that your website will face downtime every day. Most of the times, the website runs smoothly without a glitch. It is the days with high traffic that can be a problem.

Read customer reviews and do not hesitate to contact customer support for any queries.

2) Server Location and Scalability

The next most important factor to look for is the website load time which is dependent on the server response time.

Did you know, according to kissmetrics, a 1-second delay in page load time can cause a 7% reduction in conversion rates. And 40% of users will abandon sites that don’t load within 3 seconds.

If you want to start a money-making blog, then your first priority should be your Google ranking. And website speed is one of the most important factors SEO considerations by Google.

While website speed depends on a lot of factors like image size, CSS, javascript, no of header requests, server location takes the top seat. The closer and faster your server is, the faster will be your website speed.

You can use tools like Pingdom, Yslow and GTmetrix to measure your website’s speed as well as assess your host., it lists down a list of measures to be undertaken to increase the speed.

What happens when your website grows? In a regular hosting environment, the web host would suspend your website as traffic spikes could affect other users on the server.

So while selecting a cloud hosting provider, you need to look at the scalability offered by them and how competitive is it.

Many providers would offer cheap plans but they would have higher charges for upgrades and some may not be scalable, migrating your live website is not an optimal option and also a tedious task.

3) Control Panel

An average user is not aware of the technicalities relating to hosting of the website. What you need is an easy to use and simple Control Panel.

A web host might have cPanel, Plesk, Proprietary or any third-party Control Panel, the only important thing is that it should be easy to use for an average user. If you would first have to learn how to use the Control Panel with a steep learning curve, how would you be able to focus on the website?

Hosting website on a server should be an easy job unless you go for a Dedicated Hosting or Unmanaged VPS service then you need to have a technical background. Otherwise, in a regular hosting environment you will have to point your domain name servers correctly to the server and upload your website files to the public folder to make your website is online.

Using a web hosting Control Panel you can upload files, add domains, create subdomains, create email ids, add SSL certificates to your website among others. You also have the option of One-Click Installs which helps you to start a blog, job portal or classifieds directory with a single click.

If your web hosting provider has standard control panels like cPanel or Plesk you have most of the features needed and if it is a proprietary software then you need to check what they offer. Here is a list of features to look out for in a Cloud Hosting Control Panel:

  • WordPress Blog
  • DNS Manager
  • File Manager
  • Email Managers
  • FTP
  • SSI (Server Side Include) for easy site maintenance
  • One-click install scripts
  • Easy SSL install
  • PHP version change option
  • Server Status
  • Statistics
  • Cron

4) Website Security

According to eminent cybersecurity experts,

  • Damage related to cybercrime is projected to hit $6 trillion annually by 2021. (Cybersecurity Ventures)
  • By 2020, the estimated number of passwords used by humans and machines worldwide will grow to 300 billion. (Cybersecurity Media)
  • By 2020, it is estimated that IT analysts covering cybersecurity will be predicting five-year spending forecasts (to 2025) at well over $1 trillion. (Cybersecurity Ventures)

There are numerous cybersecurity threats which individuals and organizations face every year. They suffer physical losses in terms of hardware and virtual loss including data and brand reputation.

Unsecure web servers are prone to more attacks than secured ones. Most of the prominent hosting providers have a high level of security measures undertaken for protecting their servers.

Mostly websites face a data breach, malware and DDOS attacks. Even if you have secured your website if the server has any loophole it exposes your website to the threat too. It’s very important or your webserver to have antivirus scanning and firewall protection. Nowadays Control Panels have spam security and IP blocking feature for known threats.

Not all cloud hosting providers are the same in terms of the level of security they offer. Multi-layered security architecture with antivirus, firewall, data encryption, data backups, routine security audits and real-time threat monitoring passes the checkmark for secure web hosting provider.

Using a free solution like Cloudflare would not be able to protect your website from most of the threats. I had faced a situation with one of my hosts when the server was targeted in a DDOS attack and Cloudflare could not do anything as it was a problem at my server end, a more secure server would have prevented it.

So do not hesitate to spend a little money on a good security software.

5) Pricing

Cloud hosting is a competitive market and to keep up with price wars companies sometimes reduce the performance of the environment. The thing to note here is for a specific plan with the market standard price. You can get a standard price by comparing features and prices of various plans.

Cloud Hosting providers offer many plans from basic to advance depending upon your requirements. For instance, Siteground offers Startup plan for a single website with an average of 10000 visits at Rs.282.58/- and a managed AWS. Whereas, the basic plan for Milesweb for 1 website starts at Rs.392/-.

Most of the web hosting providers offer minimum plans basic, intermediate and advanced. Usually, the basic plan lacks most of the features, but with the growing demand for better services, you can get a good deal with a dedicated IP, unmetered traffic, unlimited databases, and 2-5 email accounts, disk space may be limited or unlimited.

Not to get confused between unmetered and unlimited; in case of unmetered hosting there is no limit on the amount of data you can transfer, only the speed at which you can transfer it.

Now that we are clear of all the important features you need to look for in a cloud host, it is time we move on to top 10 cloud hosts in India.

Final Thoughts

Finally, I would like to remind you to choose a server that is closer to you. Not necessarily India, but Singapore and HongKong will work just fine. That being said using CDN solutions you can considerably increase the load and response time, a CDN would not be properly utilized if the server performs poorly.

In my opinion, SiteGround is better if you need reliability, performance, and scalability. It does not mean that other providers are not as reliable as I have selected only the best ones.

If we go for value for money and then A2, MilesWeb, InMotion farewell. Hostinger is the cheapest in terms of pricing and they have the quality too if you are on a budget Hostinger is the right choice for you.

Hostgator and Godaddy have established players with a strong customer base. They have to do a bit on the Automatic Account Suspension Policy, they are the reliable choice if you want a complete user-friendly experience as they are quite familiar with it being in the industry for so long.

FastComet is making a mark in the industry, they fare well on the support but can do better with their servers (and they are working on it). Bigrock is a known brand in India and they are industry leaders in the domain space. and ResellerClub focuses more on resellers but their prices are highly competitive.
